Your roof is meant to last 30 years or more, but like anything else in life, if you do not take care of it, that longevity is not guaranteed. The best way to ensure a long life from your roof is to perform regular maintenance and cleaning as well as have regular inspections. When you take these simple steps, you can fix any problems that may occur early on, enabling you to have a beautiful, long-lasting roof.
Keeping your Roof Clean
Keeping your roof clean might seem like an impossible task, after all how are you supposed to know when it needs cleaning? The easiest way to do this is to schedule a cleaning in the spring and again in the fall. This gives you the opportunity to take care of any issues that occurred as a result of the winter months and then again before winter settles in. Cleaning your roof means taking care of the gutters, fascia and the roof itself. If you are not comfortable climbing a ladder and reaching to these areas yourself, you should enlist professional help to ensure that the process is done right.
Getting Roof Inspections
An inspection is also imperative to enhancing the life of your roof. When we perform roof inspections, we look for issues with the shingles, the wood underneath and the insulation. We specifically look for leaks, ripped or damaged shingles, wet insulation and damage from ice and/or snow. Sometimes you are unable to see the damage that has occurred from down on the street, but when we get up at roof level, we have a birds’ eye view of the damage or potential problems. When you have an inspection done on either side of winter, you help to eliminate issues that could become detrimental to the life of your roof.
The obvious things that you can watch for when trying to enhance the life of your roof is fallen tree branches, excessive leaves or debris accumulation and missing shingles. If you spot any of these issues, they need to be cared for right away. Other issues will not be as obvious to you, but could be just as detrimental. Take the life of your roof seriously and you will get to enjoy it for many years to come.
